The key moments of Cannes’ history :

The first tourists
Historians place the presence of the first occupants one century before JC. The Ligurians, the transalpine people who dominated the western extremity of the known world at the time, settled on a promontory, the present-day Suquet, and erected an oppidum or fortified camp there. No archaeological remains attest to the occupation of the site by the Ligurians, the barbarians as the Greek geographer Strabo later called them. Let’s look towards the sea to find traces of these first tourists.
